January 2023 Incident
Fox News released a new post going back in time to 2023 to resurface memories of the 2023 pedestrian incident.

In January 2023, a tragic incident in Seattle resulted in the death of 23-year-old Jaahnavi Kandula, a graduate student from India. Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave struck Kandula with his patrol car while responding to an overdose call. Investigations revealed that Dave was driving 74 mph in a 25 mph zone at the time of the collision.
Following the incident, the King County Prosecutor's Office decided not to file criminal charges against Dave, citing insufficient evidence to prove recklessness or criminal negligence. However, Dave was fined $5,000 for second-degree negligent driving.
In January 2025, Interim Police Chief Sue Rahr terminated Dave's employment, stating that his dangerous driving could not be overlooked, despite his intention to respond swiftly to an emergency. The incident also drew attention due to body-camera footage of Detective Daniel Auderer, vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, making insensitive remarks about Kandula's death. Auderer was later suspended from patrol duty. Kandula's family has filed a lawsuit against the city and Dave, seeking justice for her untimely death. They remember her as a brilliant student who came to the United States to pursue her dreams and support her family.
